The Limiñanas

“Can I have your autograph?” he said to the fat blonde actress. “You know, I know everything you’ve done,” sings Doug Yule on New Age by the Velvet Underground. Love and violence toward an actress who has spanned decades, a star considered faded.

This is what the new album by the Limiñanas tells: once again placing so-called fallen stars under the spotlight. It speaks to the forgotten women who, from the 1950s to today, have vanished from screens as if by a cruel spell, condemned by the passing of time. Voracious cinephiles, aware that the sordid side is revealed when one scratches beneath Hollywood’s glamour, Lionel and Marie Limiñana wanted to pay tribute to them here.

On this new opus, the most spellbinding French duo in psychedelic garage rock surround themselves with exceptional guests. The legendary Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream) lends his decadent elegance to “Prisoner of Beauty”, Rover pushes the sound toward a more frontal rock with “Shout”, while Bertrand Belin, Anna Jean (Juniore), PENNY, Pascal Comelade, and Jon Spencer complete this constellation of singular voices.

On Faded, The Limiñanas sculpt a hazy garage-punk, drenched in reverb and spleen. Tempos accelerate, guitars slash, and yet a melancholic softness permeates the whole, as if each riff carried within it one last dance under the spotlight.

After 15 years of career, Lionel and Marie Limiñana — the cult duo The Limiñanas — prove once again that they are much more than just a cult band: they are the guardians of a timeless, visceral rock, worldwide.
