Midas The Jagaban
The phrase ‘no face, no case’ is one that Midas The Jagaban takes seriously. By adopting a balaclava and making her anonymity of the utmost importance, Midas’ music becomes the central attraction. Referring to herself as “the faceless one”, although no one knows the person behind the mask, her sound is as distinctive as ever.
Rooted in South London with Nigerian heritage, Midas’ music is inspired by the afrobeats she was raised on fused with a distinctly British sound, “in London, the culture is there. I had access to various kinds of music; I was listening to house, garage, all different vibes. But afrobeats was my soundtrack at home.” Midas’ diasporan upbringing is etched into her dance floor-ready party anthems, ingrained with infectious beats and playful lyricism.
She arrived on the scene in 2020, seemingly from thin air, acquiring a self-assured signature tag that soon inspired her titular debut EP. With her career still in its infancy, Midas became an instant hitmaker, gaining virality on tracks ‘Come We Bill Eh’ and ‘Party With A Jagaban’ on Triller and Tiktok. “I didn’t even know it was trending when it was trending!” Midas humbly recounts. Despite the fact that she was totally unaware of her reach, listeners around the world quickly fell victim to the ‘Midas Touch’, agreeing on one thing: every beat Midas touches turns to gold.
