Bio
Jarvis is back with his brand new single 'Running The World'. Although you're unlikely to hear it on the radio any time soon, given that the chorus is 'Cunts Are still running The World', it is currently exclusively available to buy on iTunes and will be widely available as a download as of August 21.
The track was first unleashed on the public via Jarvis' very on Myspace page in July - www.myspace.com/jarvspace - and has clocked up 106,587 plays to date. It was uploaded to his page on the first anniversary of Live-8 - quite purposefully of course...
Jarvis explains: "I wanted you to hear it now cos It's exactly 1 year since that Live-8 thing & it was the night of that event that I wrote this song. I apologise for all the swearing but sometimes that's the only thing that seems appropriate. It's in no way a criticism of Geldof & co. but I remember thinking at the time: "Where does engaging with these politicians/businessmen really get you?" - (12 months on & the cunts still haven't paid up as far as I can make out) - maybe the problem is something more...fundamental. Anyway, what do I know? I'm just a pampered rock star - but at least I think it's good to discuss this stuff. Don't you?"
The first single to be released under his own name and taken from his forthcoming solo album, 'Running The World' is one sure fire way to return packing a punch. The album is almost complete and is scheduled for release in November this year.
Not one to be content with only having one finger in one pie, Jarvis has also been busy compiling bonus cds and writing sleevenotes for the much anticipated re-release of three classic Pulp albums in September and his work on the Serge Gainsbourg tribute album (as well as working with Charlotte on her solo album) have been well documented. In addition to this he lent his narration skills to the Art of Pop documentary broadcast on Radio 4 in July and is scheduled to perform select songs from Serge Gainsbourgs' 'Histoire De Melody Nelson' at the Barbican in October along with Badly Drawn Boy, Gruff Rhys and Mick Harvey.
It's what we've all been waiting for; Jarvis Cocker is back. Go tell the world
